MLA Kulwant Singh Launches Anti-Drug Awareness Drive in Mohali
An anti-drug awareness campaign aimed at promoting a healthy, safe, and drug-free society was launched in SAS Nagar Mohali on 13 June 2026. The initiative was started by area coordinators Jagjit Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, and their dedicated team with the objective of spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging citizens to actively participate in building a healthier and addiction-free community.
The campaign was formally flagged off in the presence of MLA Kulwant Singh, local residents, volunteers, youth, and community members. The awareness drive aims to reach people from all sections of society through public outreach programmes, awareness rallies, and community engagement activities. The initiative focuses on educating citizens about the physical, social, and economic impact of substance abuse while inspiring collective action to prevent drug addiction.
Drug abuse continues to be a major social challenge that affects individuals, families, and communities. Awareness campaigns play a vital role in addressing this issue by promoting education, encouraging open dialogue, and motivating people—especially young individuals—to choose healthy lifestyles and positive opportunities. Community participation remains one of the strongest tools in preventing substance abuse and creating a supportive environment for future generations.
The campaign seeks to strengthen grassroots awareness by encouraging residents to become active partners in the fight against drugs. Volunteers will continue interacting with local communities to spread awareness about prevention, early intervention, and the importance of supporting individuals and families affected by addiction. Such community-led initiatives contribute significantly towards creating safer neighbourhoods and promoting social responsibility.
Mohali has witnessed steady progress in education, sports, infrastructure, healthcare, and community development over the years. Initiatives that promote social awareness and public health complement these development efforts by contributing to the overall well-being of society. Building a drug-free environment remains essential for ensuring that young people have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and contribute positively to the development of Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh appreciated the efforts of Jagjit Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, and their entire team for launching the awareness campaign. He said that awareness and public participation are among the most effective weapons in the fight against drug abuse. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to eliminating the menace of drugs through awareness, strict enforcement, rehabilitation, and active community participation.
He further stated that protecting the youth is a collective responsibility and called upon citizens, educational institutions, social organisations, and community leaders to work together in spreading awareness against drug abuse. He emphasised that with united efforts and sustained public participation, Mohali can become a stronger, healthier, and drug-free constituency where future generations can thrive in a safe and positive environment.
The awareness campaign concluded with a pledge by participants to support the mission of creating a drug-free Punjab. Through continuous public awareness, community engagement, and coordinated efforts between citizens and the administration, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh remain committed to building a healthier, safer, and more progressive SAS Nagar Mohali.
