Major Women Welfare Project Launched with Working Women Hostel in Mohali
A significant step towards strengthening women-centric infrastructure in SAS Nagar Mohali was taken on 19 June 2026 with the foundation stone laying ceremony for a modern Working Women Hostel in Sector 66. The project was launched under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the presence of Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, reflecting the Punjab Government’s commitment to providing safe, secure, and well-equipped accommodation for working women across the state.
MLA Kulwant Singh participated in the ceremony, marking the beginning of an important public infrastructure project designed to support women who have relocated to Mohali for employment, education, and professional careers. As Mohali continues to grow as a leading hub for information technology, healthcare, education, business, and government services, the demand for secure residential facilities for working women has increased significantly. The new hostel is expected to address this growing need while promoting greater independence, safety, and confidence among women professionals.
The proposed Working Women Hostel will offer modern residential accommodation equipped with essential facilities to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment. The project is expected to benefit women employed in government departments, healthcare institutions, educational organisations, corporate offices, and the private sector. By providing secure accommodation near workplaces and educational institutions, the initiative will help improve convenience, reduce travel-related challenges, and encourage greater participation of women in the workforce.
The hostel project forms part of the Punjab Government’s broader vision of strengthening public infrastructure and expanding women-focused welfare initiatives across SAS Nagar Mohali. Alongside continued investment in roads, healthcare, education, drinking water supply, sanitation, and citizen services, the government is placing special emphasis on infrastructure that promotes women’s safety, empowerment, and equal opportunities. The Working Women Hostel is expected to become an important social asset, supporting both community welfare and inclusive urban development.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that providing safe and affordable accommodation for working women is essential for creating an inclusive, progressive, and women-friendly society. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to implementing development projects that strengthen women’s welfare, improve public infrastructure, and create better opportunities for professional growth. He added that the Working Women Hostel in Sector 66 will provide long-term benefits to women professionals while further enhancing Mohali’s social infrastructure.
He further said that the government will continue to prioritise initiatives that promote women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment through improved public facilities and citizen-focused development programmes. He expressed confidence that the hostel would become a valuable resource for women pursuing careers in Mohali and contribute significantly to the city’s continued growth.
The foundation stone laying of the Working Women Hostel marks another important milestone in the development of SAS Nagar Mohali. Through sustained investment in women-centric infrastructure, public welfare, and inclusive development, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh remain dedicated to building a safer, stronger, and more progressive future for the people of Mohali.
