Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana flagged off two special pilgrimage buses from Village Mauli Baidwan, SAS Nagar (Mohali) under the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, an initiative launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The scheme aims to enable senior citizens to undertake spiritual journeys to prominent religious and historical destinations with comfort, dignity, and full government support.
The pilgrimage tour will take senior citizens to several revered destinations in Punjab, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. Along with offering a spiritual experience, the journey also provides participants with an opportunity to explore Punjab’s rich cultural, religious, and historical heritage.
Before the departure of the buses, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana interacted with the pilgrims, extended his heartfelt greetings, and wished them a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching journey. He expressed satisfaction that senior citizens from Mauli Baidwan and nearby areas were able to undertake the pilgrimage without having to worry about travel arrangements or related expenses.
The Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme has been introduced to ensure that elderly citizens can visit important religious places with dignity and convenience. The Punjab Government has made comprehensive arrangements for transportation and other essential facilities throughout the journey, allowing pilgrims to focus entirely on their spiritual experience. The initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to the welfare, dignity, and well-being of senior citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said:
“Our senior citizens have made invaluable contributions to society throughout their lives, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they receive the care, respect, and opportunities they deserve. The Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme is a meaningful initiative that enables elderly citizens to fulfil their spiritual aspirations in a safe, comfortable, and well-organised manner.”
He further said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government continues to implement welfare-oriented initiatives that directly benefit citizens across the state. He added that every necessary arrangement has been made to ensure that pilgrims receive quality facilities, assistance, and a comfortable travel experience throughout the journey.
Mayor Samana also appreciated the officials and volunteers involved in organising the pilgrimage, stating that coordinated efforts by various departments have helped make the initiative smooth and accessible for senior citizens.
The flag-off ceremony reflected the Punjab Government’s continued emphasis on citizen welfare and inclusive governance. Alongside improvements in infrastructure and public services, initiatives dedicated to senior citizens remain an important part of Mohali’s development agenda, ensuring that people from every section of society benefit from welfare programmes. The successful departure of the two pilgrimage buses from Mauli Baidwan once again highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting social welfare while preserving Punjab’s rich religious and cultural heritage.
