Punjab Assembly Local Bodies Committee Discusses Civic Services and Public Issues

An important meeting of the Committee on Local Bodies of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha was held on 26 August 2026, during which various matters concerning local bodies, their functioning and issues related to public interest were discussed in detail.
The meeting focused on reviewing the functioning of local bodies and assessing measures to make their working more effective, transparent and responsive to the needs of residents. Various issues related to civic services and the functioning of local institutions were also taken up during the deliberations.

MLA Kulwant Singh emphasised that the primary focus of local institutions should remain on public welfare and effective service delivery. He said that issues raised by residents should receive timely attention and that concerned authorities should work towards providing practical solutions.
He further stressed the importance of better coordination and accountability in the functioning of local bodies. According to him, improving civic services requires continuous monitoring, effective planning and a public-oriented approach.
The committee members also discussed the importance of ensuring that local institutions remain responsive to changing requirements in urban and rural areas. Better planning and efficient utilisation of available resources can help strengthen civic infrastructure and improve services for residents.
