Residents travelling between Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Mohali are expected to get improved connectivity soon, with the Municipal Corporation undertaking construction of a new road linking the two areas. Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana has said that the work has been assigned a 10-day completion target.
The road project covers approximately 12,500 square metres and is being executed at an estimated cost of around ₹55 lakh. According to the Mayor, the work is being carried out on a time-bound basis so that residents do not have to face prolonged inconvenience.
Road Work Begins After Sewerage Project
The construction is being undertaken near the Do Singh area, where the road project had remained pending due to sewerage and other utility-related works.
With the sewerage work at the location now completed and the network stabilised, the Municipal Corporation has been able to begin the road construction. The completion of the utility work has cleared the way for restoration and development of the road connection.
Once completed, the Phase 1–Phase 2 link is expected to provide a smoother route for local residents and commuters travelling between the two established residential areas.
The new connection could also help distribute local traffic more efficiently and reduce dependence on surrounding routes currently being used by residents.
₹89 Crore Road Infrastructure Programme
Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana said that the project is part of a broader road infrastructure initiative being undertaken by the Mohali Municipal Corporation.
Road repair, reconstruction and related infrastructure works worth approximately ₹89 crore are planned across different parts of the city. Roads requiring urgent attention are being identified and prioritised as part of the programme.
The civic body is also focusing on improving associated drainage and road infrastructure, particularly at locations where monsoon conditions have affected road surfaces and traffic movement.
Focus on Roads and Drainage
Several stretches of road in Mohali have faced challenges during the rainy season, including waterlogging, damaged surfaces and disruption caused by underground utility works.
The Municipal Corporation’s approach includes not only repairing damaged roads but also improving supporting infrastructure so that roads can remain in better condition over the longer term.
Proper drainage is particularly important during periods of heavy rainfall, as accumulated water can weaken road surfaces and create difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.
Coordination With Utility Departments
The Phase 1–Phase 2 project also highlights the importance of coordination between road and utility works.
Sewerage, water-supply and other underground infrastructure projects often require roads to be excavated. Delays in restoring such stretches can result in inconvenience for residents and commuters.
With the sewerage-related work at the site completed, the Municipal Corporation has now moved ahead with the road construction and restoration process.
Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana has emphasised the need to complete the work within the announced timeline and minimise inconvenience to residents during the construction period.
Residents Await Completion
The 10-day completion target for the Phase 1–Phase 2 road will now be closely watched by residents who regularly use the route.
Although the ₹55-lakh project is relatively modest compared with the Municipal Corporation’s wider road-development programme, the new connection could have a direct impact on daily movement in the surrounding residential areas.
The Municipal Corporation is also expected to continue monitoring roads requiring repair and improvement across Mohali and undertake works according to priority and available resources.
The immediate focus remains on completing the Phase 1–Phase 2 connection within the announced deadline and ensuring that the newly constructed road provides safe, smooth and durable connectivity.
If completed as planned, the project will provide a useful local link between the two phases and add to the ongoing road and civic infrastructure improvements being undertaken across Mohali.
