Mohali: The second phase of Mission Clean Punjab has been relaunched in Mohali with a renewed focus on removing garbage from vulnerable locations, improving cleanliness along major roads and encouraging residents to actively participate in keeping the city clean.
The cleanliness campaign was launched at Sector 74-A (Bariyali) on Airport Road, one of Mohali’s important entry and exit points. Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sundeep Singh Garha were present during the launch.
The initiative is part of the Punjab Government’s statewide 10-day cleanliness drive, being conducted from August 29 to September 7 under the theme “Clean Punjab, Proud Punjab.” The campaign focuses on tackling Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs), where open dumping and repeated accumulation of waste have become persistent civic concerns.
20 to 25 Garbage-Prone Locations Identified in Mohali
As part of the campaign, the Municipal Corporation Mohali has identified around 20 to 25 locations that require special attention. These include garbage-prone areas, key entry points and stretches along major roads where waste accumulation has frequently affected the cleanliness of public spaces.
During the intensive cleanliness phase, sanitation workers and machinery are being deployed to remove accumulated garbage and improve the condition of these locations.
Officials are also focusing on preventing cleaned sites from becoming dumping points again. The emphasis is therefore not only on removing existing waste but also on improving monitoring and encouraging responsible waste disposal among residents.
CCTV Monitoring to Check Illegal Dumping
Increased surveillance is another important component of the campaign. CCTV cameras are being used at locations where illegal dumping has been reported, helping civic authorities identify people who dispose of waste in public areas.
Residents found violating waste disposal rules may face challans or other action under applicable regulations, according to the civic administration.
The monitoring system is intended to discourage repeated open dumping and ensure that areas cleaned under the campaign remain free from fresh waste.
Residents Urged to Participate in Cleanliness Drive
Public participation has been placed at the centre of the renewed campaign. Residents have been urged to cooperate with sanitation workers, avoid dumping household or commercial waste in open areas and report garbage accumulation or illegal dumping to the authorities.

Proper segregation at the household level can help improve waste collection and processing while reducing the amount of waste ending up at vulnerable dumping locations.
M-Seva Platform to Help Report Garbage Hotspots
The Punjab Government has encouraged citizens to use the M-Seva platform to report Garbage Vulnerable Points.
Residents can submit photographs of garbage-affected locations through the platform, enabling complaints to be registered and tracked for further action. This provides citizens with a way to directly highlight recurring cleanliness problems in their neighbourhoods and public areas.
Greater use of such reporting mechanisms can also help civic authorities identify locations that require regular monitoring rather than temporary clean-up efforts.
Focus on Major Roads and Entry Points
For Mohali, the cleanliness campaign has particular significance because several of the targeted locations are situated along major roads and important entry points.
These areas are among the first places seen by residents, commuters and visitors entering the city. Keeping them clean therefore contributes not only to public hygiene but also to the overall appearance and image of Mohali.
However, maintaining these locations requires more than one-time garbage removal. Regular sanitation, effective waste collection and strict action against repeated dumping are necessary to prevent cleaned areas from returning to their previous condition.
Cleanliness Requires Community Responsibility
The renewed Mission Clean Punjab campaign also highlights an important civic message: maintaining a clean city is not solely the responsibility of municipal sanitation workers.
Municipal teams can remove accumulated waste and maintain public spaces, but careless disposal can quickly recreate a garbage hotspot.

Community participation can make it easier for the Municipal Corporation to identify problem areas and take timely action.
Campaign Aims to Prevent Repeat Dumping
The second phase of Mission Clean Punjab in Mohali is therefore being positioned as more than a short-term garbage removal exercise.
While sanitation teams are working to clear existing waste from vulnerable locations, the broader objective is to create cleaner public spaces and reduce the chances of the same locations becoming dumping points again.
The combination of municipal action, CCTV monitoring, waste segregation, citizen reporting and public awareness could help create a more sustainable approach to cleanliness across the city.
What Residents Can Do
Residents can contribute to the campaign through a few simple practices:
- Avoid throwing garbage in open areas.
- Keep wet and dry waste separate.
- Hand over waste through the municipal collection system.
- Do not dump waste near roads, vacant plots or public spaces.
- Report recurring garbage hotspots to the authorities.
- Use the M-Seva platform to report Garbage Vulnerable Points.
- Cooperate with sanitation workers during cleanliness operations.
- Encourage neighbours and community members to follow responsible waste disposal practices.
A Long-Term Cleanliness Push for Mohali
The success of Mission Clean Punjab in Mohali will ultimately depend on what happens after the intensive campaign period ends.
If cleaned locations continue to receive regular monitoring and residents actively avoid open dumping, the campaign could help prevent the recurrence of garbage hotspots.
For Mohali, sustained cleanliness along major roads, entry points and other vulnerable locations can improve the appearance of the city while also strengthening public awareness about responsible waste management.
The renewed phase of Mission Clean Punjab brings together municipal efforts and citizen participation with a common goal: to create cleaner public spaces, reduce open dumping and build a stronger culture of responsible waste disposal in Mohali.
If these efforts continue beyond the 10-day campaign and receive consistent support from residents, the initiative could contribute to a cleaner and more well-maintained Mohali in the long term.
