Punjab News: Government schools across Punjab have witnessed significant changes in recent years as the state government has placed greater emphasis on school infrastructure, digital learning, attendance monitoring, teacher training and improvements in the classroom environment.
The Bhagwant Mann government has presented these initiatives as part of its broader education reform agenda, with the objective of making government schools more modern and improving the overall learning environment for students.
Real-Time Attendance Monitoring Introduced
One of the notable changes has been the use of technology for monitoring student attendance. Under the real-time attendance tracking system, parents receive daily SMS alerts regarding their child’s attendance and absence from school.

According to the government’s stated monitoring mechanism, prolonged absence is followed up at different administrative levels. Cases involving seven days of absence are to be followed up at the district level, while absences extending beyond 15 days are flagged for attention at the state level.
The initiative aims to strengthen coordination between schools, parents and education authorities while encouraging regular attendance.

Technology has increasingly become an important component of classroom learning in Punjab’s government schools. Smart classrooms, interactive panels, computer facilities and other digital learning tools are being introduced to support teachers and students.
The state government has also been working on expanding digital infrastructure under its education initiatives. A government tender, for example, has sought a Learning Management System and digital academic content for Classes IX to XII across Punjab’s government schools, reflecting the growing role of technology in school education.
