MLA Kulwant Singh Launches Pilgrimage Journey for Elderly Residents
Senior citizens from Village Naraingarh Jhungian, SAS Nagar Mohali, were flagged off on a spiritual pilgrimage on 5 July 2026 under the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at enabling elderly citizens to visit prominent religious and historical places with dignity, comfort, and convenience. The programme reflects the government’s continued commitment to senior citizen welfare while preserving Punjab’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
MLA Kulwant Singh flagged off the pilgrimage bus and extended his heartfelt best wishes to all the devotees for a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching journey. He interacted with the senior citizens before their departure and assured them that the Punjab Government had made comprehensive arrangements for transportation, accommodation, meals, medical assistance, and other essential facilities to ensure a smooth and memorable pilgrimage experience.
During the tour, the pilgrims are scheduled to visit several renowned religious and historical destinations, including Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Durgiana Mandir, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, the Partition Museum, and other places of spiritual and historical importance. The pilgrimage has been designed to provide senior citizens with an opportunity to strengthen their faith, experience Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, and gain deeper insight into the state’s historical legacy.
The Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme has become an important welfare initiative for elderly citizens, especially those who may find it difficult to undertake such journeys on their own due to financial or logistical challenges. By providing organised travel and comprehensive support, the Punjab Government is making religious tourism more accessible while promoting social inclusion, cultural awareness, and the well-being of senior citizens. The initiative reflects the government’s vision of ensuring that every section of society benefits from people-centric welfare programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that senior citizens have devoted their lives to serving their families and society, and they deserve opportunities to undertake spiritual journeys with dignity and comfort. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to implementing welfare initiatives that improve the quality of life of elderly citizens while preserving Punjab’s religious and cultural traditions. He wished all the pilgrims a safe journey, good health, and a spiritually fulfilling experience.
He further expressed confidence that the pilgrimage would provide the devotees with peace of mind, spiritual inspiration, and cherished memories. He encouraged senior citizens to continue participating in government welfare initiatives designed for their benefit and well-being.
The flag-off ceremony concluded with prayers for the safe and successful completion of the pilgrimage. Through initiatives such as the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to strengthen public welfare, promote Punjab’s religious and cultural heritage, and enhance the dignity, happiness, and well-being of senior citizens across SAS Nagar Mohali.
