Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana Inspects Sewerage, Roads and Drain Cleaning Works Across Mohali Ahead of Monsoon
With the arrival of the monsoon season, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana carried out an extensive field inspection of civic infrastructure works across Sector 70, Sector 71, Phase 4, Corporation Lights area, and other adjoining parts of SAS Nagar Mohali. The inspection was aimed at reviewing the preparedness of the Municipal Corporation to tackle heavy rainfall by assessing the condition of sewerage networks, roads, drainage systems, and sanitation arrangements, while ensuring effective measures are in place to prevent waterlogging and safeguard public convenience.
During the inspection, the Mayor reviewed the ongoing cleaning of sewerage lines, desilting of drains, road repair works, and sanitation operations being carried out across the city. He personally visited locations where drainage blockages and waterlogging concerns had previously been reported and instructed the concerned officials to complete all cleaning and maintenance work well before heavy rains. The inspection focused on improving drainage efficiency, ensuring smooth traffic movement, and minimising the risk of flooding in residential and commercial areas.
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana emphasised that preventive maintenance is the key to effective monsoon management. He directed officials to intensify drain desilting operations, remove accumulated waste from sewerage systems, repair damaged roads, and ensure that all vulnerable locations are monitored regularly. He instructed engineering, sanitation, and maintenance teams to work in close coordination so that civic infrastructure remains fully functional throughout the rainy season.
The inspection covered several important residential and commercial localities where efficient civic infrastructure is essential for protecting public safety and maintaining uninterrupted municipal services. The Mayor noted that timely maintenance of roads, drains, and sewerage networks not only helps prevent waterlogging but also reduces the risk of overflow, unhygienic conditions, and traffic disruptions during periods of heavy rainfall. He stressed that coordinated efforts by all departments are necessary to provide residents with safe, clean, and hassle-free civic amenities.
During the visit, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana issued strict directions to the concerned officers to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and ensure that all blockages in sewerage lines and drains are removed without delay. He instructed officials to conduct regular field inspections, closely monitor ongoing works, and respond immediately to complaints received from residents. He also emphasised that accountability, continuous supervision, and timely execution of civic works are essential for effective public service delivery.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that protecting citizens from monsoon-related challenges remains one of the Municipal Corporation’s highest priorities. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously working to strengthen urban infrastructure, modernise civic services, and improve sanitation across the state. He added that regular field inspections help identify potential issues at an early stage, ensuring quicker corrective action and better preparedness before the onset of heavy rains. He also appealed to residents to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation by keeping drains free from waste, avoiding littering, and promptly reporting civic issues to the concerned authorities.
The inspection concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening Mohali’s civic infrastructure through proactive planning, preventive maintenance, and efficient municipal services.
