Senior Citizens Set Out on Religious Tour from Sector 69 Under Punjab Government’s Tirath Yatra Scheme
Senior citizens from Sector 69, SAS Nagar Mohali, embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage on 20 July 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Punjab Government dedicated to providing elderly citizens with the opportunity to visit prominent religious and historical destinations free of cost. MLA Kulwant Singh flagged off the pilgrimage bus and conveyed his heartfelt best wishes to all the pilgrims, wishing them a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching journey.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme has been introduced to ensure that senior citizens, especially those who may not have the financial means to undertake such pilgrimages on their own, can fulfil their spiritual aspirations with dignity and convenience. Under the scheme, the Punjab Government bears the complete cost of transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential arrangements, enabling elderly devotees to focus entirely on their religious experience.
As part of the pilgrimage, the senior citizens will visit several revered destinations in Amritsar, including Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. These iconic sites hold immense religious, cultural, and historical significance and provide pilgrims with an opportunity to seek blessings while learning more about Punjab’s rich heritage and India’s freedom struggle.
Before the departure, MLA Kulwant Singh interacted warmly with the senior citizens and their family members. He encouraged the pilgrims to enjoy the journey, cherish the spiritual experience, and take full advantage of the facilities provided under the government scheme. He also assured them that every effort had been made to ensure their comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the pilgrimage.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens. He stated that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government is ensuring that elderly citizens can undertake religious pilgrimages without any financial burden by providing free travel, quality accommodation, wholesome meals, medical assistance where required, and other necessary facilities.
He further said that the scheme is not merely a pilgrimage programme but a meaningful social welfare initiative that honours the invaluable contribution of senior citizens to society. By making religious travel accessible and comfortable, the government is helping elderly citizens fulfil their lifelong spiritual aspirations while strengthening the values of compassion, inclusion, and community care.
The pilgrimage bus departed from Sector 69, SAS Nagar Mohali, amidst prayers, warm wishes, and an atmosphere of devotion, with family members, local residents, and public representatives gathering to bid farewell to the pilgrims.
