Mayor Samana Leads 80th Independence Day Programme at Government College in Mohali
Mohali: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic spirit at Government College, Phase 6, SAS Nagar Mohali, where Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony and extended his greetings to residents on the national occasion.
The programme was attended by Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, along with students, teaching and non-teaching staff, public representatives and members of the local community. The national flag was hoisted with due respect, followed by a solemn remembrance of the freedom fighters and martyrs who made sacrifices during India’s struggle for independence.
During the ceremony, participants paid tribute to the brave men and women whose courage and dedication contributed to the country’s freedom. The programme highlighted the significance of Independence Day as an occasion not only to celebrate the nation’s independence but also to remember the responsibilities that come with it.
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that the sacrifices of the martyrs remain an enduring source of inspiration for citizens. He said their contribution reminds every generation of the importance of courage, commitment, discipline and service to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs and encouraged young people to learn from their determination and dedication. He emphasised that the values demonstrated by those who fought for India’s freedom continue to have relevance in today’s society.
The Minister called upon the younger generation to contribute positively to the country and society. He said that education, responsible citizenship and a commitment to public welfare are important ways through which citizens can contribute to the nation’s continued progress.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that Independence Day provides an opportunity to remember the immense sacrifices made to secure India’s freedom. He extended his warm wishes to the people of Mohali and said that the ideals of the freedom struggle should continue to guide citizens in their everyday lives.
The Mayor further said that citizens can honour the legacy of the martyrs by working with honesty, responsibility and dedication. He emphasised the importance of public service, social harmony and active participation in community development.
Referring to Punjab’s development, Mayor Samana said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government continues to focus on development and public welfare. He called upon residents to contribute collectively towards the progress of Punjab and the country while upholding the values of unity and patriotism.
The presence of students and members of the academic community added a special significance to the celebrations at Government College. The programme provided an opportunity for the younger generation to remember the country’s history and understand the responsibilities associated with citizenship and nation-building.
