Mohali: The district administration of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has released the schedule for the fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’, with competitions in the district set to begin from September 12.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa released the schedule during a media briefing held at the District Administrative Complex in Mohali on Wednesday.

According to the announced schedule, block-level competitions in the district will be organised from September 12 to 14. District-level competitions will follow from September 20 to 30, while state-level competitions will be held from October 10 to November 23.

The fourth edition of the state-wide sports programme is aimed at encouraging people from different age groups to participate in sports and strengthening the sporting culture across Punjab.

This year, the programme includes competitions across a wide range of sporting disciplines. Eight sports will be conducted at the block level, 29 disciplines at the district level and 38 sports at the state level.

Four para-sports disciplines will also be included at the state level. These are athletics, badminton, powerlifting and wheelchair basketball, providing athletes with disabilities an opportunity to participate alongside the wider sporting programme.

One of the notable additions this year is tennis-ball cricket. Girls’ teams will also be eligible to participate in cricket competitions at the district and state levels, giving more young players an opportunity to take part in the tournament.

The competition is open to participants across a broad age range, beginning with the Under-14 category and extending to participants aged 70 years and above. The organisers are encouraging families, young people, senior citizens and sports enthusiasts to participate according to their age and eligibility categories.

The district has already received an encouraging response. Around 2,800 participants have registered for the games so far, reflecting growing interest in the sporting event even before the district-level competitions begin.

The administration has advised interested players to complete their registration through the designated sports registration system. Offline assistance will also be available at stadiums and other designated locations wherever required.

The district administration has also appealed to schools, colleges, sports associations and other institutions to encourage eligible players to participate. The objective is not only to identify sporting talent but also to promote regular physical activity among people across different age groups.

Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan has emerged as one of Punjab’s major grassroots sporting programmes, providing players with opportunities to compete at block, district and state levels. The multi-stage format allows promising athletes from smaller towns and villages to progress through the competition structure.

The fourth season is being organised as part of the Punjab Government’s wider push to promote sports and encourage young people to adopt healthier and more active lifestyles.

The state-level competitions will bring together players who qualify through the earlier stages, providing them with an opportunity to compete against athletes from across Punjab.

For Mohali district, the September competitions will mark the beginning of the local phase of the fourth edition. With registrations already showing a positive response, the administration is expecting active participation once the competitions get underway.

Officials have urged eligible residents not to miss the opportunity to participate and have encouraged players to make use of the available registration and facilitation arrangements. With competitions ranging from traditional sporting disciplines to para-sports and tennis-ball cricket, Season 4 is expected to bring together participants from different generations and backgrounds under a common sporting platform.
