Mohali: The Finance and Contract Committee of the Mohali Municipal Corporation has approved 43 proposals covering sanitation, waste management, parks, water supply, sewerage, roads, sports infrastructure and other civic works across the city.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana, focused on strengthening essential municipal services and advancing development works in different parts of Mohali. Among the major proposals cleared by the committee is the construction of new sheds at the secondary waste-collection point in Jagatpura, estimated to cost around ₹99 lakh.

₹99 Lakh Shed Project Approved at Jagatpura

The proposed sheds at the Jagatpura secondary waste-collection facility are aimed at improving waste-handling infrastructure and making operations at the site more organised.

The project comes amid the Municipal Corporation’s efforts to strengthen sanitation and waste-management systems and address garbage-related concerns in different parts of the city.

The committee also approved proposals for procuring additional JCB machines and tractor-trolleys to support sanitation and waste-management operations, particularly in newly incorporated areas of the corporation.

Mosquito-Control Measures Strengthened

The civic body has also proposed the procurement of 1,200 litres of Cyphenothrin 5% EC insecticide/adulticide to strengthen mosquito-control operations.

The estimated expenditure for the procurement has been placed at around ₹26 lakh, including GST. The measure is intended to support the corporation’s efforts to control mosquito breeding and maintain better public-health conditions in the city.

Major Focus on Parks and Green Spaces

Maintenance and development of parks formed another significant part of the approved proposals.

Around ₹34 lakh has been proposed for the annual maintenance of a special park in Zone 1, while approximately ₹57 lakh has been earmarked for the maintenance of general parks in the same zone.

For Zone 2, annual maintenance of general parks has been estimated at around ₹78 lakh. The committee has also considered a proposal of approximately ₹15 lakh for developing green belts in front of St Xavier’s High School in Wards 66 and 71.

Badminton Courts to Boost Sports Infrastructure

Sports facilities are also part of the development agenda. Around ₹38 lakh has been proposed for constructing badminton courts at Kargil Park, the park near Gurdwara Sahib in Sector 71 and two other parks in the same sector.

Water-Supply Infrastructure Gets Attention

Several proposals have been taken up to strengthen water-supply infrastructure across Mohali.

Other water-related works include the installation of dosing pumps at tubewells and underground reservoirs, an air compressor for tubewells in Sector 78 and electrical works at the Phase 6 water treatment plant.

The committee has also proposed four dewatering sump pumps for the Phase 6 facility.

Sewerage and Tree Maintenance Works

Sewerage infrastructure has also been included in the list of civic works, with proposals for repairing damaged sewer lines in Phases 5 and 7.

The corporation is also looking to strengthen its tree-maintenance resources. A proposal worth around ₹38 lakh has been considered for providing drivers and labour for a large tree-pruning machine for two years.

In addition, the corporation has approved the purchase of a tree-pruning machine to support regular maintenance of trees across the city.

The plan is proposed to be prepared by the Guru Ramdas School of Planning at Guru Nanak Dev University at an estimated cost of around ₹35 lakh for a six-month period.

The proposed plan is expected to provide a structured framework for addressing urban logistics and related municipal planning requirements.

Library Facilities to Receive Additional Books

Library facilities have also been included in the civic agenda. Around ₹9 lakh has been proposed for supplying books to libraries located in Sectors 77, 78, 79 and 80.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening reading and learning facilities available to residents in these sectors.

Administrative and Maintenance Requirements

Apart from development and public-service projects, the committee discussed several administrative and maintenance requirements of the Municipal Corporation.

These include stationery, computer and printer maintenance, computer training for staff, furniture for officials’ offices and other routine operational requirements.

Mayor Samana Emphasises Development Across All Wards

Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana said development works were being taken up across all 50 wards without political considerations, with the interests of Mohali being given priority.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening basic civic services while ensuring that development works are undertaken in different parts of the city according to local requirements.

Multiple Civic Sectors Covered Under Approved Proposals

The 43 proposals cover a wide range of services that directly affect residents’ daily lives. Waste management, sanitation, parks, water supply, sewerage, tree maintenance, sports facilities, roads and public amenities have all been included in the committee’s agenda.

The approval of these proposals marks the next step towards implementing the planned works. Their impact, however, will depend on timely execution, effective monitoring and completion of projects according to the prescribed standards.

With several works now moving forward, residents will be looking for visible improvements on the ground, particularly in areas related to sanitation, waste management, parks, water supply and other essential civic services.
