Awareness Campaign Highlights Collective Responsibility to Eliminate Drug Abuse
An anti-drug awareness campaign was launched in Mohali on June 13, 2026, with the objective of encouraging a healthier, safer, and drug-free society through active community participation and public awareness. The initiative was led by area coordinators Jagjit Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, and their dedicated team, who have undertaken the campaign to educate residents about the harmful effects of drug abuse and inspire collective action against substance addiction.
The campaign was formally flagged off in the presence of local residents, volunteers, social workers, youth representatives, and community members. The awareness drive aims to reach every section of society by spreading the message of prevention, rehabilitation, and responsible citizenship through public outreach programmes, awareness activities, and community engagement. The initiative encourages people to stay away from drugs while promoting healthy lifestyles and positive social values.
Drug abuse remains one of the most serious social challenges affecting individuals, families, and communities. Awareness campaigns play a crucial role in preventing substance abuse by educating people about its physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences. Such initiatives also encourage open discussions, early intervention, and greater public awareness, particularly among young people, who represent the future of society.
The Mohali campaign focuses on strengthening awareness at the grassroots level by motivating citizens to become active partners in creating a drug-free environment. Through continuous interaction with residents, educational programmes, and community participation, the organisers aim to encourage informed decision-making and build a culture that rejects substance abuse while promoting health, education, and social responsibility.
Mohali has emerged as one of Punjab’s fastest-growing cities with continued progress in education, infrastructure, sports, healthcare, and community development. Social awareness initiatives such as this campaign complement these development efforts by helping create a healthier, safer, and more responsible society. Public participation remains essential in ensuring that awareness messages reach every neighbourhood, village, educational institution, and family across the constituency.
Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government has continued to strengthen its fight against drug abuse through awareness programmes, law enforcement, rehabilitation initiatives, youth engagement, and community participation. The government’s vision focuses not only on enforcement but also on prevention, education, and social cooperation to eliminate the menace of drugs from society.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh appreciated the efforts of Jagjit Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, and their entire team for launching this meaningful public awareness initiative. He said that creating awareness is one of the most effective ways to prevent drug abuse and protect future generations from the harmful effects of addiction.
He further stated that safeguarding the youth requires the collective efforts of families, educational institutions, social organisations, public representatives, and every responsible citizen. He encouraged residents, especially young people, to actively participate in anti-drug awareness programmes and become ambassadors of a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free society. He emphasized that community participation remains the strongest foundation for building a safer and more progressive Mohali.
The awareness campaign concluded with a collective pledge by participants to support the mission of creating a drug-free society and promoting responsible citizenship. As the initiative expands across different parts of Mohali, it is expected to strengthen public awareness, encourage positive behavioural change, and contribute towards the shared vision of a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Punjab.
