\Senior citizens from Bakarpur and Jhurheri villages in the Mohali constituency embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage on 4 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at enabling elderly citizens to undertake sacred journeys with dignity and without financial burden. As part of the programme, two pilgrimage buses were flagged off from Bakarpur and one bus from Jhurheri, carrying devotees to prominent religious and historical destinations in Punjab.
The departure ceremony witnessed the presence of local residents, family members, and community representatives, who gathered to extend their best wishes to the pilgrims. The occasion was marked by an atmosphere of devotion and enthusiasm as senior citizens began their spiritual journey under the government-supported initiative.
During the pilgrimage, the devotees will visit several revered destinations in Amritsar, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. These places hold immense religious, cultural, and historical significance, offering pilgrims an opportunity to seek blessings while experiencing Punjab’s rich spiritual and historical heritage.
Under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government provides free transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential facilities throughout the journey. The initiative has been introduced to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their long-cherished desire to undertake religious pilgrimages in a safe, comfortable, and well-organised manner, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Tirath Yatra Scheme reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare, dignity, and well-being of senior citizens. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government continues to introduce welfare initiatives that improve the quality of life of elderly citizens while providing them with opportunities to undertake spiritually enriching journeys.
MLA Kulwant Singh extended his heartfelt wishes to all the pilgrims for a safe, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage. He prayed for their good health, happiness, and safe return, adding that such initiatives not only strengthen spiritual values but also recognise and honour the invaluable contribution of senior citizens to society.
The three pilgrimage buses departed from Bakarpur and Jhurheri amidst prayers, warm wishes, and enthusiastic participation from local residents. Through welfare programmes such as the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government continues to make religious travel more accessible for senior citizens while promoting inclusive, citizen-centric governance across the Mohali constituency.
