Senior Citizens from Nagari Village Set Out for Holy Pilgrimage Under Tirath Yatra Programme
Senior citizens from Nagari village in the Mohali constituency departed on a spiritual pilgrimage on 1 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Punjab Government designed to enable elderly citizens to undertake religious journeys with dignity, comfort, and without financial burden. The programme reflects the government’s continued commitment to promoting the welfare and well-being of senior citizens through inclusive social initiatives.
Before the departure, the pilgrims were warmly greeted and extended best wishes for a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching journey. Family members, local residents, and community representatives gathered to bid them farewell, expressing hope that the pilgrimage would bring peace, happiness, and divine blessings to all the participants.
As part of the pilgrimage, the senior citizens are scheduled to visit several prominent religious and historical sites in Amritsar, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. The journey offers devotees an opportunity to seek spiritual blessings while also exploring the rich religious, cultural, and historical heritage of Punjab.
Under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government provides comprehensive support, including free transportation, accommodation, nutritious meals, medical assistance where required, and other essential facilities throughout the pilgrimage. The initiative has been introduced to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their long-cherished spiritual aspirations in a safe, well-organised, and dignified manner, irrespective of their financial circumstances.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is a significant welfare initiative that demonstrates the Punjab Government’s commitment to honouring and supporting senior citizens. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is working to ensure that elderly citizens receive opportunities to undertake sacred pilgrimages without financial or logistical difficulties. He conveyed his best wishes to all the pilgrims and prayed for their safe, peaceful, and memorable journey.
The pilgrimage bus departed from Nagari village amidst prayers, warm wishes, and enthusiastic support from local residents. Through citizen-focused initiatives such as the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to strengthen social welfare, preserve cultural and spiritual traditions, and enhance the quality of life of senior citizens across the Mohali constituency.
