SAS Nagar (Mohali), July 23, 2026: Senior citizens from Phase 9, SAS Nagar Mohali, were flagged off on a spiritual pilgrimage under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme on Wednesday, July 23, 2026. The journey commenced with an Ardaas (prayer ceremony), after which the pilgrims were warmly seen off with prayers and best wishes for a safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling trip.
Launched by the Punjab Government as a major welfare initiative for senior citizens, the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme enables elderly residents to visit some of the state’s most revered religious, historical, and cultural destinations without any financial burden. During this pilgrimage, the participants will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum, allowing them to experience Punjab’s rich spiritual heritage and historical legacy.
The scheme has been designed to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their religious aspirations with dignity, comfort, and convenience. To make the journey completely hassle-free, the Punjab Government is providing free transportation, accommodation, nutritious meals, medical assistance, and other essential travel arrangements, ensuring a safe and memorable pilgrimage for every participant.
Before the departure, MLA Kulwant Singh met the senior citizens and their family members, interacted with the pilgrims, and conveyed his heartfelt wishes for a peaceful and spiritually enriching journey. He appreciated the Punjab Government’s continued efforts to improve the quality of life of elderly citizens through welfare initiatives that combine social security, public care, and spiritual well-being.
Addressing those present at the flag-off ceremony, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is a reflection of the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to serving senior citizens with respect, dignity, and compassion. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is working to ensure that elderly citizens can undertake religious pilgrimages without worrying about travel expenses or logistical arrangements.
He further added that such initiatives not only fulfil the long-cherished religious aspirations of senior citizens but also strengthen the relationship between the government and the people by making welfare schemes accessible to every deserving beneficiary. According to him, the programme also plays an important role in preserving Punjab’s rich spiritual traditions while encouraging inclusive and people-centric governance.
The pilgrimage bus departed from Phase 9 amid an atmosphere of devotion, with family members, local residents, and well-wishers gathering to bid farewell to the pilgrims and wish them a safe journey. The occasion reflected a strong sense of community participation and respect for the elderly.
