Mohali, August 17, 2026: Jaswant Kaur, wife of MLA Kulwant Singh, participated in a Tiyan celebration organised in Ward No. 4 of Mohali on August 17, joining women from the local community in marking the traditional Punjabi festival. The programme was also attended by the mother of international cricketer Gurleen Deol, eminent social worker Smt. Charanjit Kaur Ji, and social activist Smt. Inderjit Kaur Ji.
The celebration brought together women to observe Tiyan, a traditional festival associated with the monsoon season and deeply connected with Punjab’s cultural heritage. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that Tiyan is an important part of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and represents joy, togetherness, and affection among daughters, sisters, and families. He said that such traditional celebrations help strengthen community relationships while allowing younger generations to understand and remain connected with Punjab’s customs.
He appreciated the organisers and all the women who participated in the programme for their efforts to preserve the traditional character of Tiyan. He said that cultural festivals play an important role in keeping Punjab’s heritage and traditions alive in a changing society.
