Senior Citizens from Lakhnaur Village Embark on Pilgrimage Under CM Teerth Yatra Scheme
Senior citizens from Lakhnaur village in the Mohali constituency commenced a spiritual pilgrimage on May 11, 2026, under the Punjab Government’s Chief Minister’s Teerth Yatra Scheme. The journey was flagged off amid enthusiasm and devotion, offering elderly residents an opportunity to visit some of Punjab’s most significant religious and historical landmarks.
During the pilgrimage, the devotees will visit renowned destinations including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum. The tour aims to provide both spiritual enrichment and a deeper understanding of the region’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
The Chief Minister’s Teerth Yatra Scheme has been introduced to make religious travel accessible and convenient for senior citizens. For many elderly residents, visiting sacred sites is a long-cherished aspiration, and the initiative helps fulfil these wishes by providing organised travel and necessary support.
A large number of local residents and family members gathered to bid farewell to the pilgrims, extending their best wishes for a safe and meaningful journey. The event highlighted the strong sense of community participation and support for welfare initiatives that directly benefit citizens.
The pilgrimage is expected to offer participants an opportunity for spiritual reflection while strengthening their connection with Punjab’s religious traditions and cultural legacy. Such programmes also encourage social interaction and contribute positively to the overall well-being of senior citizens.
Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state government has launched several citizen-focused welfare programmes aimed at improving the quality of life of people across Punjab. The Teerth Yatra Scheme is among the key initiatives designed to ensure that senior citizens can undertake religious journeys with dignity, comfort and proper assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that senior citizens have contributed immensely to society and deserve opportunities to fulfil their spiritual aspirations. He noted that the scheme is enabling elderly residents to visit important religious destinations without facing financial or logistical challenges.
He further assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the comfort and safety of the pilgrims throughout the journey. Expressing his best wishes, he hoped that the tour would bring peace, spiritual fulfilment and memorable experiences to all participants.
The departure of the pilgrims from Lakhnaur village reflects the Punjab Government’s continued commitment to public welfare and community development. As welfare initiatives continue to reach more citizens, programmes focused on senior citizen welfare remain an important part of inclusive and people-centric governance.
