Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana Reviews Environmental Measures at Municipal Dumping Sites
SAS Nagar, Mohali: Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana conducted an extensive inspection of the Municipal Corporation’s dumping sites at Phase 9, Phase 11, and Jagatpura in SAS Nagar Mohali to review their existing condition and assess the measures required for improving solid waste management and environmental sustainability. The field visit reflected the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to strengthening sanitation infrastructure and ensuring a cleaner, healthier urban environment for the residents of Mohali.
During the inspection, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana closely examined the operational status of each dumping site and reviewed the current waste collection, segregation, disposal, and processing systems. He sought detailed briefings from Municipal Corporation officials regarding the challenges associated with waste management, pollution control, environmental compliance, and the infrastructure available for scientific waste processing.
The Mayor directed the concerned officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for upgrading the dumping sites and implementing modern waste management practices. He instructed them to take immediate corrective measures to improve sanitation standards, minimise environmental pollution, and reduce the impact of waste disposal activities on nearby residential areas.
Addressing officials during the inspection, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana emphasised that scientific waste management is one of the key pillars of sustainable urban development. He said that efficient segregation, processing, recycling, and safe disposal of municipal waste are essential for protecting public health, conserving the environment, and maintaining cleanliness across the city. He also stressed the need to adopt modern technologies and environmentally responsible methods for handling solid waste.
The Mayor further instructed the Municipal Corporation to ensure regular monitoring of all dumping sites and accelerate improvement works without unnecessary delay. He said that continuous supervision and timely execution of development projects would help strengthen Mohali’s sanitation system, reduce pollution, and significantly improve the quality of civic services delivered to residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana stated that improving sanitation and environmental infrastructure has been one of the highest priorities since assuming office. He said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to building cleaner cities through better waste management systems, stronger civic infrastructure, and sustainable urban development initiatives. He reaffirmed that the Municipal Corporation, SAS Nagar Mohali, will continue working proactively to modernise waste management facilities and implement long-term solutions that benefit both citizens and the environment.
The inspection concluded with detailed discussions on future improvement plans and environmental protection measures. Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana reiterated that the Municipal Corporation remains committed to creating a cleaner, greener, and pollution-free Mohali through effective solid waste management, responsible governance, and continuous investment in civic infrastructure.
