Mohali Gears Up for Census 2027, Residents Urged to Complete Self-Enumeration
The Census 2027 self-enumeration process commenced on April 30, offering residents of SAS Nagar Mohali an opportunity to register their household information online before the commencement of the formal enumeration exercise. Citizens across the constituency have been encouraged to actively participate in the process and ensure accurate and timely submission of information to support one of India’s most significant national data collection initiatives.
The self-enumeration phase will remain open from April 30 to May 14, 2026. During this period, residents can independently provide details of their households and family members through the official Census portal. Following the completion of this phase, designated Census enumerators will conduct field visits from May 15 to June 13, 2026, to verify information and collect data from households that have not completed the online registration process.
The Census serves as a critical tool for policy formulation and development planning at both the national and state levels. Data collected through the Census helps governments assess population trends, housing conditions, educational attainment, employment patterns, and various socio-economic indicators. Accurate information enables better planning of public services, infrastructure projects, welfare schemes, and development initiatives that directly impact citizens’ lives.
Residents of Mohali are being encouraged to take advantage of the self-enumeration facility, which has been introduced to simplify participation and reduce the time required during household visits by Census officials. The online platform allows families to conveniently complete the registration process from their homes by entering the required information through a secure and user-friendly system.
The self-enumeration initiative is expected to improve efficiency and streamline the overall Census operation. Upon successful completion of the process, households will receive a Self-Enumeration Identification Number (SEIN), which can be presented to Census officials during subsequent verification exercises. This helps avoid duplication of information and facilitates faster completion of the survey process.
A comprehensive Census survey is also scheduled to be conducted in February 2027. Families that have completed self-enumeration will be able to simplify the verification process by providing their SEIN to visiting officials. Households that do not participate in the online registration process will continue to be covered through traditional door-to-door enumeration, ensuring that every household is included in the Census exercise.
The Census is important for both urban and rural communities across Mohali. Accurate participation by residents helps ensure that future development projects, infrastructure planning, welfare programmes, and public services are based on reliable and comprehensive data. Information collected during the Census supports informed decision-making and contributes to long-term community development.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Census is an important national exercise that plays a key role in planning better services and development initiatives for citizens. He urged all residents of the Mohali constituency to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and provide accurate information to support effective governance and future planning.
He further stated that the online system offers a convenient and time-saving method for families to complete the registration process. He also appealed to residents to extend full cooperation to Census officials and enumerators whenever required. Emphasizing the importance of public confidence, he assured citizens that all information collected during the Census would remain strictly confidential and would be used solely for official statistical purposes.
The launch of the self-enumeration process marks a significant step towards modernizing data collection and strengthening citizen participation in governance. As Mohali continues to expand and develop, accurate demographic information will remain essential for improving infrastructure, enhancing public services, and ensuring inclusive growth and development for all sections of society.
