Mohali: Work to improve the condition of roads in Sector 80 has started with the laying of premix, bringing some relief to residents who have been facing problems due to the poor condition of the road.

The roadwork was initiated in the sector by councillor Satwinder Singh. The proposal for laying premix on the road had earlier been placed before the Municipal Corporation, and work has now moved forward following approval of the proposal.

The premix work is aimed at improving the riding surface and making movement easier for residents and commuters using the affected stretch. Road maintenance remains an important civic issue in Mohali, particularly in areas where damaged surfaces can create difficulties for motorists and two-wheeler riders.

Sector 80 is among the newer parts of Mohali and connects with several important residential and developing areas. Better road conditions are expected to improve local connectivity and make daily travel more convenient for residents.

Along with the roadwork, another long-standing issue concerning the area has also been raised. A proposal has been submitted to cover underground the dirty water flowing from the drain in Phase 9.

The drain has reportedly been causing foul smells in the surrounding area, creating inconvenience for people living nearby. The issue has remained a concern for some time, and efforts are now being made to find a more permanent solution rather than relying only on temporary measures.

The proposal to underground the drain is intended to address both the flow of wastewater and the problems caused by its exposure. If taken forward, the work could improve the surrounding environment and reduce the inconvenience faced by residents.

The local councillor said efforts are continuing to address the drainage issue and other development requirements in the area. Additional civic works are also expected to be taken up in the coming days.

Road maintenance and drainage are closely connected to the overall quality of urban infrastructure. While resurfacing can improve road conditions, proper drainage is equally important to prevent water-related damage and ensure that newly improved roads remain in good condition for a longer period.

For residents of Sector 80, the beginning of the premix work is therefore an important local development. The immediate priority is to complete the roadwork properly, while the proposed underground drainage solution could help address another persistent problem in the area.

The latest development also reflects the need for regular maintenance as Mohali’s newer sectors continue to grow. As residential activity and traffic increase, timely repairs and improvements to roads, drainage and other basic infrastructure become increasingly important. Residents will now be looking for the roadwork to be completed efficiently and for the drainage proposal to move ahead so that both issues can be addressed in a lasting manner.
