Mohali: Students, parents and schools across Punjab can now order Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) textbooks online and have them delivered directly to their homes through India Post. The new facility is aimed at making access to board-prescribed textbooks more convenient, particularly for families living far from PSEB offices and designated book collection centres.

The Punjab School Education Board, Mohali, has entered into an agreement with the Department of Posts, Punjab Circle, for doorstep delivery of textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 across the state.

The arrangement expands the services available through PSEB’s Pustak Portal, an online platform launched for the direct purchase of board textbooks. Under the new system, buyers can place their orders online and opt for delivery through the postal network instead of travelling to a designated PSEB centre to collect their books.

The doorstep facility is expected to benefit students and parents, particularly those living in rural, remote and smaller parts of Punjab. Previously, books ordered through the online platform had to be collected from designated district offices or other collection centres. Home delivery provides an additional option and can save families the time and expense involved in travelling to collection points.

PSEB has made textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 available through the Pustak Portal. The catalogue includes a wide range of titles in Punjabi, Hindi and English mediums covering prescribed academic material for different classes and subjects.

According to the information provided by the board, buyers purchasing textbooks through the portal can avail themselves of a 15 per cent discount. Postal delivery charges will be payable separately for orders that are delivered to the buyer’s doorstep.

The Pustak Portal was introduced at the beginning of the 2026-27 academic session as part of PSEB’s efforts to make its textbooks more accessible and provide students, parents and schools with a direct online purchasing facility.

Alongside the online system, PSEB has established a network of 97 delivery and collection centres across Punjab. Buyers who prefer not to use home delivery can continue to collect their orders through these designated centres.

The agreement with India Post adds another distribution option for families who may face difficulties in reaching district-level collection locations. With its extensive postal network across the state, India Post can help extend textbook delivery to a wider geographical area.

PSEB Chairman Dr Amarpal Singh and other officials were present during the agreement between the education board and the postal department. The initiative is intended to simplify the textbook ordering process and reduce the need for physical visits to PSEB offices and collection centres.

The board has printed textbooks for the current academic session and made them available through its online platform. The centralized ordering system also allows students, parents and schools to purchase prescribed textbooks directly from PSEB rather than depending entirely on private booksellers.

The 15 per cent discount announced for online textbook purchases is another feature of the portal aimed at making board-prescribed books more accessible and affordable for buyers. The addition of doorstep delivery further simplifies the process by allowing users to place an order online and receive the books through the postal network.

However, the paid online ordering facility should be distinguished from the existing provision for government-school students. Students studying in government schools will continue to receive textbooks free of cost under the existing government provision. The paid Pustak Portal facility is primarily relevant to students, parents and schools purchasing textbooks directly from PSEB.

The initiative also reflects the increasing use of digital services in education and public distribution systems. By combining online ordering with India Post’s established delivery network, PSEB is providing buyers with greater flexibility in accessing prescribed textbooks.

The facility could be particularly useful at the beginning of an academic session or when students require books at short notice. Families in smaller towns and villages can now avoid travelling to Mohali or other district-level centres solely for collecting textbooks.

With online ordering, a 15 per cent discount, 97 collection and delivery centres and the new India Post doorstep delivery option, PSEB has expanded the ways in which students, parents and schools can obtain board-prescribed books for Classes 1 to 12.

The focus will now be on ensuring efficient processing of online orders and smooth coordination between PSEB and the postal department so that textbooks reach buyers across Punjab in a timely manner.

The doorstep delivery facility marks another step towards modernising textbook distribution in the state and making prescribed educational material more accessible to students and families, regardless of their location.
