Mohali: Election Commission of India-appointed Roll Observer Mohammad Tayyab reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in Mohali and Kharar, focusing on voter registration, corrections, shifting of voters and the disposal of claims and objections.
Tayyab, a 2007-batch IAS officer appointed as Roll Observer for the SIR exercise, visited several polling stations in the district on Sunday to assess the progress of the revision work at the ground level. During the visit, he interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and local residents and reviewed the facilities being provided for voter-related services.
As part of the inspection, Tayyab visited the polling station at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sohana, under the Mohali Assembly constituency. He also inspected polling stations at Government Elementary School, Mundi Kharar, and Government High School, Desumajra, under the Kharar Assembly constituency.
Focus on Voter Registration and Electoral Roll Corrections
The review covered the registration of new voters, correction of information in electoral rolls and requests for shifting voter registrations from one address to another.
Officials were directed to ensure that eligible citizens receive proper assistance and that applications related to the revision process are handled effectively within the prescribed timelines.
Tayyab also urged eligible residents to use the prescribed forms for making changes or seeking inclusion in the electoral roll.

- Form 6A is meant for eligible overseas Indian voters.
- Form 8 is used for corrections in voter details and changes of address.
September 12 Deadline for Claims and Objections
The current phase of the SIR-2026 claims and objections process will continue until September 12, 2026.

The administration has particularly appealed to eligible citizens aged 18 years and above whose names are not included in the electoral roll to complete their registration within the prescribed period.
Existing voters have also been encouraged to verify their names and personal details in the draft electoral roll and seek corrections wherever required.
Meeting With District Election Officer
During the review, Tayyab also held a meeting with Mohali Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal to assess the progress of claims and objections.
The meeting included discussions on the disposal of applications, notices issued to concerned persons and public hearings being conducted as part of the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise.
The officials reviewed the steps being taken to ensure that claims and objections are processed according to the prescribed procedure and within the stipulated timelines.
Political Parties’ Feedback Sought
Later, the Roll Observer met representatives and Booth Level Agents of recognised political parties at the District Administrative Complex.

Special camps were also organised at polling booths across the district on Sunday. Booth Level Officers remained available at the camps to assist residents with voter registration, corrections, shifting of voter details and other electoral roll-related requirements.
Residents were encouraged to visit the designated polling stations and seek assistance from BLOs if they require help with forms or the revision process.
Final Electoral Roll to Be Published on October 12
The SIR-2026 exercise is aimed at making electoral rolls more accurate while ensuring that all eligible citizens are included in the voter list. The revision process also provides voters an opportunity to correct errors in their personal details and raise objections where necessary.
According to the current schedule, the claims and objections period will continue until September 12, 2026, followed by the disposal of claims and objections up to October 8, 2026.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 12, 2026.
Voters Urged to Verify Their Details
The Mohali administration has urged residents to verify their names and personal information in the draft electoral roll and complete any required correction or registration process within the stipulated period.
Voters requiring assistance can use the Election Commission’s voter services and helpline facilities or approach their concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) and election office for guidance regarding the required forms and procedures.
The latest review by Roll Observer Mohammad Tayyab comes at a crucial stage of SIR-2026, with the administration working towards completing the claims and objections process before the revised electoral rolls are finalised.
