With the onset of the monsoon season, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing civic infrastructure and sanitation works in Sector 70, Sector 71, Phase 4, Corporation Lights area, and other adjoining parts of SAS Nagar Mohali. The inspection was aimed at reviewing the city’s preparedness for heavy rainfall by assessing the condition of sewerage networks, stormwater drains, roads, and sanitation infrastructure to minimise the risk of waterlogging and ensure uninterrupted public services during the rainy season.
During the visit, the Mayor closely reviewed the desilting and cleaning of sewerage lines, drain maintenance operations, road repair works, and overall monsoon preparedness being carried out by the Municipal Corporation. He inspected locations identified as vulnerable to water accumulation and directed the concerned officials to ensure that all cleaning and maintenance work is completed within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasised that preventive action before the arrival of heavy rains is the most effective way to protect residents from inconvenience and safeguard public infrastructure.
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana instructed officials to intensify the cleaning of stormwater drains, remove silt and waste from sewerage systems, repair damaged roads, and ensure that all pumping stations and drainage networks remain fully functional throughout the monsoon. He stressed that every department must work in close coordination so that civic services remain efficient and emergency situations can be handled promptly whenever required.
The inspection covered several residential and commercial areas where proper drainage and sanitation infrastructure are essential for public safety and smooth traffic movement during periods of heavy rainfall. The Mayor observed that well-maintained roads, clean drains, and efficient sewerage systems not only help prevent waterlogging but also reduce health risks by preventing overflow, stagnant water, and unhygienic conditions. He directed officials to conduct regular field inspections and closely monitor sensitive locations to ensure immediate corrective action wherever necessary.
During the inspection, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana issued strict instructions to the concerned departments to maintain high standards of cleanliness and ensure that all civic maintenance works are carried out with quality and efficiency. He directed officials to remain vigilant throughout the monsoon season, respond quickly to complaints received from residents, and maintain continuous supervision of ongoing works so that public inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that protecting citizens from monsoon-related challenges remains one of the Municipal Corporation’s highest priorities. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously working to strengthen urban infrastructure, modernise civic services, and improve public sanitation across the state. He added that regular on-site inspections help ensure transparency, accountability, and timely completion of public works while enabling the administration to identify and resolve potential issues before they affect residents. He also appealed to citizens to support the Municipal Corporation by keeping drains free from waste, avoiding littering, and promptly reporting civic problems through the appropriate channels.
The inspection reflects the Municipal Corporation’s continued commitment to strengthening Mohali Development through proactive planning, improved sanitation, and efficient maintenance of essential civic infrastructure.
