Mohali: Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh has announced financial assistance for three meritorious students from economically weaker families who have qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and secured admission to medical colleges.

The three students, all of whom studied at Punjab’s Meritorious Schools, have taken an important step towards fulfilling their ambition of becoming doctors. Recognising both their academic performance and financial challenges, Kulwant Singh has decided to provide assistance towards their education-related expenses.

The students are Mehakdeep Singh from Alamwala village in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, Aman Singh from Malout, and Sumandeep Kaur from Hauz Gandhar village in Fazilka district.

Financial Assistance for Medical Education

Mehakdeep Singh has secured admission to Gian Sagar Medical College in Banur. The total estimated cost of his medical education, including hostel expenses, is around Rs 32 lakh.

After taking into account the scholarship and education loan available to him, Mehakdeep requires approximately Rs 13.5 lakh more to meet his educational expenses. Kulwant Singh has committed to supporting this amount.

Aman Singh has secured admission to Medical College Faridkot and will receive financial assistance of approximately Rs 14 lakh towards his education.

Sumandeep Kaur, who has also secured admission to a medical college, will receive financial assistance of around Rs 3 lakh, primarily to help meet her hostel expenses.

Support Aims to Remove Financial Barriers

For students from economically weaker families, admission to a medical college can bring significant financial challenges. Although qualifying NEET is a major academic achievement, the cost of medical education can include tuition fees, hostel charges, books, travel and other expenses.

In such circumstances, financial support can play an important role in ensuring that deserving students are able to continue their education without being forced to compromise on their career aspirations.

Kulwant Singh emphasised that talented and hardworking students should not have to abandon their educational goals because of financial difficulties. He stressed the importance of supporting students who demonstrate both academic merit and determination to succeed.

All Three Students Studied at Punjab’s Meritorious Schools

The three NEET qualifiers share an academic connection with Punjab’s Meritorious Schools, which provide educational opportunities to talented students, particularly those from financially weaker backgrounds.

Their success in NEET reflects the academic potential of students who receive education through such institutions. Their selection for medical courses marks another important milestone in their educational journeys.

For the students and their families, the financial assistance comes at a crucial stage, as they prepare to begin demanding medical courses. With a significant part of their financial burden addressed, the students can focus more fully on their studies and adapting to college life.

Assistance Brings Relief to Families

The cost of professional education remains a major concern for many families, even after students qualify competitive entrance examinations. Scholarships and education loans can help reduce expenses, but families may still need to arrange substantial amounts from other sources.

The assistance announced for the three students is expected to provide considerable relief and help them move forward with their medical education.

The development also highlights the role that individuals, institutions and community organisations can play in supporting meritorious students who face financial constraints.

Three Students Begin Their Journey Towards Becoming Doctors

With their NEET qualification and medical admissions secured, Mehakdeep Singh, Aman Singh and Sumandeep Kaur are now set to begin the next phase of their academic journeys.

Their achievement demonstrates how academic dedication and determination can open doors to professional careers, while timely financial support can help ensure that economic circumstances do not stand in the way of those opportunities.

The initiative sends a wider message about the importance of encouraging and supporting meritorious students from modest backgrounds, particularly when they succeed in highly competitive professional entrance examinations such as NEET.

For the three students, the assistance will provide support at a critical point as they take their first steps towards careers in the medical profession.
