Senior Citizens Depart from Safipur for Pilgrimage Under Punjab Government’s Tirath Yatra Scheme
A bus carrying senior pilgrims from Safipur village in the Mohali constituency departed on 19 August 2026 for a religious and historical journey under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme.
The pilgrimage will take the elderly devotees to several important religious and historical destinations, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. The journey will provide the pilgrims with an opportunity to visit revered religious places while also connecting with the rich cultural and historical heritage of Punjab.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is aimed at facilitating organised pilgrimage journeys for senior citizens. Under the arrangements made for the journey, participating pilgrims will be provided travel facilities, accommodation, and meals by the Punjab Government, allowing them to undertake the pilgrimage with greater comfort and convenience.
The departure from Safipur was marked by enthusiasm among the participating senior citizens and local residents. The initiative gives elderly residents an opportunity to travel together, visit places of religious significance, and explore destinations associated with Punjab’s history and heritage.
The itinerary includes Sri Harmandir Sahib, one of the most revered Sikh religious sites, along with Durgiana Temple and Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal. The pilgrims will also visit Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum, providing an opportunity to remember important events and chapters associated with the history of Punjab and the country.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is an important initiative aimed at providing senior citizens with an opportunity to undertake religious journeys in a comfortable and organised manner. He said that arrangements for travel, accommodation, and meals make such journeys more convenient for elderly residents.
MLA Kulwant Singh extended his best wishes to all the pilgrims and prayed for their safe, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling journey. He also wished them good health and hoped that the pilgrimage would provide them with memorable and enriching experiences.
