Mayor Participates in Inauguration of Mental Health Care Centre in Mohali
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana attended the inauguration of a Community Mental Health Clinic at Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Singh Sabha, Phase 4, SAS Nagar Mohali. The public welfare initiative was launched through the efforts of Councillor Gurmukh Singh Sohal Ji, President of Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Singh Sabha, under the guidance of Amarjit Singh Ji. The clinic has been established to provide accessible mental health counselling and professional support to members of the community through regular voluntary service.
The newly inaugurated clinic will offer Nishkam Seva every Monday, where renowned psychiatrist Dr. Harinder Hareji will provide free consultations, counselling, and guidance to individuals seeking mental health support. The initiative aims to increase awareness about mental well-being, encourage early intervention, and make quality mental healthcare more accessible to people from all sections of society in a compassionate and stigma-free environment.
During the programme, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana appreciated the dedicated efforts of Councillor Gurmukh Singh Sohal Ji, Amarjit Singh Ji, the Gurdwara management committee, medical professionals, volunteers, and all those associated with the initiative. He said that while physical health often receives greater attention, mental health is equally important for leading a healthy and balanced life. He observed that community-based healthcare initiatives like this clinic play a significant role in creating awareness, reducing social stigma, and encouraging individuals to seek timely professional assistance without hesitation.
The Mayor further noted that religious institutions have historically contributed to society through education, healthcare, humanitarian service, and community welfare. He said that the establishment of the Community Mental Health Clinic reflects the true spirit of Seva (selfless service) and demonstrates how faith-based organisations can make meaningful contributions towards improving public health and social well-being. He appreciated the organisers for combining spiritual values with healthcare services for the benefit of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening healthcare services, promoting public welfare, and supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life of citizens. He congratulated Councillor Gurmukh Singh Sohal Ji, Amarjit Singh Ji, the Gurdwara management committee, Dr. Harinder Hareji, and all the volunteers for establishing this much-needed facility. He assured them of his full support and expressed confidence that the clinic would become a valuable resource for promoting mental wellness and emotional well-being across Mohali.
The inauguration of the Community Mental Health Clinic marks a significant milestone in expanding accessible community healthcare services in SAS Nagar Mohali. Alongside ongoing infrastructure development and improved civic amenities, initiatives that prioritise mental health awareness, preventive care, and compassionate healthcare continue to strengthen the vision of building a healthier, more inclusive, and socially responsible society.
