Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana Begins Monsoon Preparedness Drive in Mohali
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana inaugurated the storm sewer cleaning work from Madanpur Chowk to Diplast Chowk in SAS Nagar Mohali as part of the Municipal Corporation’s pre-monsoon preparedness initiative. Along with the cleaning of the storm sewer network, construction work on table tops at Diplast Chowk was also commenced to prevent rainwater from entering nearby residential areas and minimise the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The project has been launched to strengthen Mohali’s stormwater drainage infrastructure and ensure the smooth flow of rainwater during periods of heavy rainfall. The comprehensive cleaning of the storm sewer system is expected to improve drainage efficiency, reduce water accumulation on roads, prevent urban flooding, and facilitate uninterrupted movement of traffic across the area. The additional construction of table tops will serve as a protective barrier, helping safeguard nearby residential localities from rainwater overflow.
During the inspection, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana reviewed the ongoing work and directed the concerned officials to maintain the highest standards of quality while ensuring timely completion of the project. He instructed engineering and field teams to continuously monitor the progress of the work and complete all pending drainage-related activities before the peak monsoon period. He emphasised that preventive planning and regular maintenance are essential for protecting public infrastructure and minimising inconvenience to residents during the rainy season.
The Mayor stated that special attention is being given to vulnerable locations that have experienced waterlogging in previous years. He said that strengthening storm sewer networks, improving drainage systems, and undertaking preventive civic works are key priorities of the Municipal Corporation to ensure public safety and uninterrupted civic services during heavy rains. He also directed officials to remain vigilant throughout the monsoon and respond promptly to any drainage-related complaints received from residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and providing modern, efficient, and citizen-centric civic services across the state. He said that storm sewer cleaning, flood prevention measures, and drainage improvement projects are vital for making Mohali more resilient to monsoon-related challenges. He assured residents that the Municipal Corporation would continue undertaking proactive infrastructure upgrades to reduce waterlogging, improve drainage efficiency, and provide a safer and more convenient living environment for every citizen.
The Mayor also appealed to residents to support the Municipal Corporation by avoiding the dumping of waste into drains and storm sewer inlets, as blocked drainage channels significantly increase the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. He said that public cooperation, along with efficient civic management, is essential for maintaining a clean and well-functioning drainage system.
The launch of the storm sewer cleaning and flood prevention works reflects the Municipal Corporation’s continued commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient SAS Nagar Mohali. Through sustained investment in drainage infrastructure, preventive maintenance, and responsive civic administration, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring better public services, improved urban infrastructure, and enhanced quality of life for residents across the city.
